This was an interesting one-off series of 3 one-dayers held across the summer under the Beggars Banquet title. There are few reports of the gigs but I thought they were worth mentioning in case someone can give me some more info about them.

The first show was on Saturday, June 26, 1971 the line-up featured Alice Cooper, Bloodrock, Bread, Chilliwack, Lighthouse, Steppenwolf, The Beach Boys

The second show Sunday, July 18, 1971 featured Black Sabbath, Humble Pie, The Grease Band, Three Dog Night, Yes.

The final show was Saturday, August 21, 1971 was  Edgar Winter’s White Trash, Lee Michaels, Seatrain, Sha Na Na, The Band.

The Borough of York Stadium was a new venue having only been built in 1969. When researching this it soon became clear that the soundboard at each gig had been recorded because some of the finest bootlegs of Black Sabbath, Yes, Pie and Coop have all emerged. Sabbath were on their Masters of Reality Tour, Alice on Love It To Death. I wouldn’t be surprised if each set by every band is available somewhere.

Glenn Buxton in very tight and surely very sweaty plastic pants.

It's amazing to look at those bills and realise that many of the bands were only in existence for one or two years at that point. Most were far from household names.
