I fell in love with this aged 14. Maybe I was an odd kid, but I loved its blizzard of guitar mixed with spirituality. I knew it was like nothing I'd heard in my short life and now I'm 54, it's still like nothing I've heard before or since. Everyone who plays on the record seems to be at the peak of their game. John McLaughlin's guitar sounds like it's been recorded with the needle in the red and it's so loud he can barely control it. At times it sounds like its getting away from him but somehow he wrestles it under control and delivers breathtaking solos.
It's astonishing music on every level and time has not diminished its power or originality.
