Paul McCartney & Wings release Band On The Run in the USA a week later than UK in 1973
Recorded in EMI's studios in Lagos - the story of how the album came together amidst all sorts of trouble and strife is a long and interesting one. But it was well worth it because this stands as Paul's stellar, non-Beatles work, I think. Not a bad track on it and some stone-cold classics too.
I love the title track but also the oft forgotten Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five and Let Me Roll It which proved that Paul could do heavy when he wanted to. Denny Laine did a great job too and was crucial to the project.
It went on to be the best selling studio album of 1974 in the UK. It was number 1 all over the world, though only reached 18 in Italy! In America it was released with the excellent Helen Wheels (a single in UK) on side 2.
A wonderful record and this was the first day we heard it, a mere 52 years ago if living in America and without access to UK radio.
