1 September 1976: West Coast music impresario Lou Adler (producer for The Mamas & the Papas and Carole King) is kidnapped alongside his assistant by a couple demanding a $25,000 ransom. He is released unharmed the following day after the money is dropped off, and the couple is caught within a week.

The bizarre charity cookbook features actual recipes submitted by rock stars, including Yoko Ono's "Dream Soup" (which literally just lists "sunshine in a bowl"), Mick Jagger's shrimp curry, and Weird Al Yankovic’s peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

3 September 1970: Canned Heat frontman Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson—one of the key blues slide guitarists of the era—passes away in Topanga Canyon at age 27.
5 September 1972: Roy Wood's newly formed band Wizzard plays their live debut at the Wembley Stadium Rock and Roll Show, dressed in full theatrical makeup, glitter, and gorilla suits—effectively launching the visual height of UK Glam Rock.
7 September 1978: Keith Moon dies of an accidental prescription drug overdose in Flat 12 at 9 Curzon Place in Mayfair, London. The apartment was owned by singer Harry Nilsson; freakishly, Cass Elliot (Mama Cass) died in the exact same bed in that exact room four years earlier. Shaken by the coincidence, Nilsson refused to step foot in the flat again and sold it to Pete Townshend to keep it off the market.
7 September 1968: Led Zeppelin perform their first-ever live show together at the Gladsaxe Teen Club in Denmark, billed at the time as "The New Yardbirds".
