Dawn was away for a few days this week in Newcastle visiting her 92-year-old mother. I think it’s important for her to have time away from being a carer for me. She didn’t ask for this imposition, after all.
It was so hot on Wednesday and Thursday, I didn’t bother to go out for fear of over-heating. Having had experience of it in Las Vegas, it’s only been 25 or 26 degrees here unlike the 36 in England. I don’t know how they cope. It’s just been a good summer, not meltingly hot, it’s even actually rained a bit.
Now Dawn’s back she’s starting to build a shed big enough for her bike and all the garden tools and room to charge my wheelchair. I said we could just buy a regular one to save her the trouble but she wouldn't have that and wanted something more bespoke. So ;loads of wood arrived yesterday and she’s busy treating it with preservative ahead of the construction and has already laid a concrete base, hiring a mixer to do so.
At some point after this, all the construction projects will be done. It feels like they’ll never end but we’re starting everything from scratch here. Then Dawn’ll think about internal improvements. We’ve got carpets to be fitted on rolls outside wrapped in polythene.She’s already fitted some curtains and promises to build some cupboards!
One thing that has worked well is the wildflower and sweet peas front garden. It's been so spectacular all summer that people regularly stop and take photos. It was all done quickly and at random but we reseeded the grass and sowed loads pf clover, californian poppies, multi-coloured blue, mauve, burgundy and purple cornflowers, bee tansy as well as started a rose hedge and they’re all in flower now. We’ve set a standard to maintain now!
