Busy times

Busy times

As you can see, the studio is taking shape, Dawn is insulating it just now to keep it warm in winter, though the hot summer weather makes that seem very unlikely. The windows need the paint removed, it's been white waxed inside.

I’m looking forward to it all being done and writing in it. Honestly, we’ve talked about this for so long and waited months for it to be built that it’s hard to believe it's actually happened.

Dawn said something I’d not really thought of the other day - ‘once all this building and decorating work is done. I want to start living a life. For a year and a half, she’s been decorating, renovating, repairing and fixing the old house and this house. And there’s still much work to do but at least once the studio is finished, she’s got the option to use it. It allows her to do something else. That’s good because all this work over so long  is burning her out. It’s all a lot of physical work for a 64 year-old woman

This week we’ve got to take the car in fir service and MOT. We;re getting it done at Halfords which is 2 miles away. Once we’ve dropped it off, I want to try and walk home. This is twice as long as I’ve walked before, so it’s quite a challenge. I do 1/2 a mile twice a day, every day. I have done a mile before but that wiped me out for a day. I want to see if I’m strong enough to do it without getting e\totally exhausted. You set yourself these little targets and measure your progress.

The fact that I’m even prepared to try this is progress in itself. I know I’ll never get back to ‘normal’ walking but if I can develop enough strength and resilience to just walk for 2 miles it’ll be a great achievement and after having the stroke, it feels almost unbelievable that I even can considering for weeks after my stroke I couldn’t even stay upright, let alone walk.

Later in the week I’m seeing a physiotherapist and want to explore FES - functional electrical stimulation - in  order to make wa;king even easier. Don’t know if they’ll be up to date about it. I find anything to do with the NHS is always hit and miss, if you get a good one they’re great. if you don't, they;re no better than looking it up on Google, well meaning but hardly experts.

So we’ll see how that all goes. Promises to be a busy week
