Formed in 1968 by drummer Jon Hiseman and saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith, both of whom were veterans of the British blues and jazz scenes, having played together in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and The Graham Bond Organisation
Their sound was a complex mix of progressive rock, jazz fusion, and blues-rock. It featured long, virtuoso instrumental solos and complex compositions. Their live album is paricularly good.
