Grapefruit were a British rock band formed in 1967 by Alexander Young (born George Alexander Young), the older brother of the Easybeats' guitarist/songwriter George Young (and also of Malcolm and Angus Young, both founding members of the Australian hard rock band AC/DC). The band also included John Perry (guitar, vocals), Geoff Swettenham (drums) and Peter Swettenham (bass).
Grapefruit were signed to Apple Records in 1968 and released their debut album, "Grapefruit", the same year. The album was produced by Terry Melcher and featured the singles "Dear Delilah" and "The Whole World's Gone Stoned".
The band released a second album, "In a Glass House", in 1969. The album was produced by Kim Fowley and featured the singles "I'm a Man" and "My Mind's Eye".
Grapefruit disbanded in 1969. Alexander Young went on to have a successful career as a session musician, while John Perry went on to have a solo career and also played with artists such as Cliff Richard and Bryn Haworth.
Grapefruit's music has been described as a mix of psychedelic rock, pop and soul. The band were influenced by a wide range of artists, including the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones and the Doors.
Grapefruit were a popular band in the late 1960s and their music has continued to be enjoyed by fans of classic rock music. The band's two albums are now considered to be cult classics and are available on CD and streaming services.
