Dino Valenti was the dominant creative force in Quicksilver. The lineup was Valenti, Gary Duncan, Greg Elmore, and David Freiberg (who left shortly after this period to join Jefferson Airplane).
This was during the era of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band that featured Ralph Wash on guitar and a prominent horn section, which moved the band toward a more jazz-fusion and R&B sound compared to their earlier Chicago blues roots
