Well of course it’s all gone wrong. The studio was supposed to be built on Saturday but the bloke didn't turn up but ‘guaranteed’ he would on Monday except he didn’t and then became incommunicado until Tuesday when he said he’d definitely do it on Sunday. Forgive me for being cynical that he ever will, so I’ve cancelled it and arranged it with a local firm.

I understand things don’t always run smoothly but all I ask is prompt communication to inform me what’s going on. It takes seconds to email but this guy doesn’t seem capable of that. Drives us crazy. It’s just really bad business, but they don’t seem to care.

If he doesn't refund us, I’ll just section 75 the company and get our money back

Over these 23 + years I realised early on that there are people who are reliable and those that aren’t. They are not necessarily criminal, just negligent and show no signs of being bothered or just don’t recognise this as an issue.

My pal breaks people down as ‘responders’ and ‘non-responders’ and says you know immediately which one they are. I mean, I can’t leave an unanswered email in my Inbox for long, in fact I reply to them within minutes usually. I don’t get many, so it's not that onerous but the idea of leaving it for 48 hours is anathema to me. I was writing pieces for this friend and he liked that if he asked me a question, I’d usually reply within a few minutes. 

Amazingly he told me there are writers who just don’t respond so he didn’t know what was being done. As an employer he also said one of the qualities he looked for was ‘the ability to turn up  on time, every day.’ He said it was rarer than you’d imagine. Christ, I never knew just turning up was even a quality. I thought it’d be taken for granted. Ironically though, Ive reached nearly 65 and have never had a salaried job.

One way or another we’ll get this built. Dawn could do it but can’t handle the weight of some bits. Frustrating doesn’t cover it.

Why are some people so crap? I don’t expect much, just information. If you can’t make it on a day, just email me as soon as you know you can’t, explain why and reschedule. I get it, things go awry, just keep me up to date, that’s all. How hard is it?
