It’s finally arrived. Our moving house week. It’s been a long time comin’ and has all but broken Dawn who has been working on renovating, painting, packing and disposing for 18 months and has forgotten what it’s like to have a life and is looking forward to finding out again. I genuinely think this whole process has given her PTSD
We’ve given away and sold about 35% of what was here, more if you include the records. Weirdly because most of it was stored in the attic/studio/shed/ under beds, it barely seems anything but it is, so much so, the only big items to be moved are the sofa, beds and white goods(which are black).
A lot of things went to the community shed to be used in all sorts of projects which at least feels good. If you’re in the house clearance business, you must get access to lots of goodies that people just want rid of. I’ve certainly bought lots of house clearance album collections over the years.
Because we move on Wednesday, with all our stuff being delivered on Thursday, we’re taking the week off the t-shirts and writing to give ourselves breathing space to uproot our lives to the opposite coast.
Of course then we’ll have to start finding places to put everything. It’s uncarpeted so we’ve ordered carpeting for the whole house which Dawn will fit. I’ve said we should get someone in to do it but Dawn likes to do such things herself, even though it’s more work. I’ve said she’s just making things hard on herself but she won’t listen.
Obviously it is inevitably a time for reflection of the 6 years we’ve been here, but I’m trying not to because you just end up feeling melancholic about time passing, especially when you’ve had a serious health episode. It’s not that we don’t want to do anything, just that we need to be realistic and pay for help when we need it.
So you won’t hear from me for a while with the quiz or newsletters while we get established in Montrose and pay some strong men £1200 to hump all our stuff over there. Wish us luck.
See you on the other side.
