The studio is supposed to get built this week after what seems like a long wait. The weather seems set fair all week, so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. What am I saying? Of course it won’t go smoothly.Things never do.
Rabbie has turned into a real home bird since moving. He rarely goes out and spends the days in, sleeping on the bed or in the attic. He’s nearly 8 now so he’s middle-aged and seems to have settled well and also seems to rub along with all the other local cats. Cat society has its own rules and they sort it all out amongst themselves\ In the last place he would fight with a local ginger tom, so I think he’ll be glad to get away from him.
We’ve seeded a new front wildflower lawn which has just scout sprouted and Dawn is landscaping the back. It all takes time and a lot of effort because basically we’re (or more accurately she) are starting from scratch so it’ll likely be a bit rough and sparse until it all gets more established. It’s a blessing and a curse really, much like the whole house actually, all of which needs work and sorting out. I don’t think it’ll get sorted until next year but it’ll be good when it’s all done.
I managed to do a long walk midweek of over a mile followed the day after by another of ¾’s of a mile. It left me exhausted because it takes concentration to keep stable and upright.I don’t think I’ve quite recovered yet. The weird thing about the stroke brain is it’s working hard to do what came naturally pre-stroke and you quickly feel wiped out and need to sleep. And when you,do, it’s lights out almost instantly like something turns your power off. Very rarely do I lie awake, more usually I’m asleep within minutes.
Dawn’s been building a shed for all her tools..She did this before. It’s not the sort of shed you might get from a garden centre, she’s building a big wooden affair with a concrete base which she’ll build on. So we've had a cement mixer here this week. A big orange one.Along with the studio it’ll give us 25% more space to put all our junk in. All the indoor work will happen when the weather is worse and makes working outside difficult. We’re aware that we’ve got to get this right because its going to be crucial going forward. It all amazes me as I see Dawn come back from Screwfix and Toolstation with a big pot of something or a roll of plastic.”You’re bewil;dered by all this aren’t you?” she said this morning. She’s right, I'm a writer not a builder.
