The endless dry, warm spell finally broke here this weekend, well, a little bit. It rained overnight and a few showers are predicted but next week sees it being dry and sunny again. It never gets too hot here, in fact I commented yesterday how it reminds me of Californian coastal weather, low 20’s. cooling breezes, still sunny late afternoons and evenings and that bright, white light that you get living beside the sea. There the comparison ends!
I know it's been in the mid-30s in England though, but here it’s just a good summer, like the ones of our childhood.The parks are looking very dry and scorched though. Ironic really as it rained for the entirety of January, February and most of March.
The patio is now finished and Dawn is landscaping the remainder of the garden 10 hours per day just to get it to a basic level of coherence in order to start moving art materials into the studio, which will be 2/3rds art studio, one third music/recording/writing area. Got to get it organised before the autumn, which gives her about 2 months. She wants to spend the winter working on her art and the house improvements.
In amongst all this DJTees has been ticking over but could do with an injection of new designs which I think Dawn is planning for the first week in August, so look out for those. This summer's 3 for 2 offer will finish at the end of July too. The EU has just put a tax on every item we send into Europe to retaliate the US tariffs, which we have to pay before it’s sent. Honestly, with this and the US tariffs everyone is making it ever harder to do trade, I think it’ll force us to raise prices. It’s stupid because all it does is make everything more expensive and reduce trade. No one wins. Everyone gets poorer.This idea that has been said that producers will just absorb the costs is a fallacy, they just get passed on. They have to be. You’d think a basic grasp of economics would make that obvious but I fear some of our leaders are some shade of stupid.
With all the work going on to establish our new lives I’ve not had a chance to run the numbers to prepare Andy for his transition. Everything has taken much longer than expected, plus he’s getting married next Saturday which is naturally preoccupying. Everything takes time but there's no deadline and no urgency so it’s still cool.
