His debut album purely as Alan Bown was released in 1970. They were popular on the student circuit and Bown had a bit of a name as a trumpeter and was in the John Barry Seven. He had a 1968 hit with We Can Help You. They were an interesting band who had Jess Roden and Robert Palmer as vocalists and Greenslade’s Dave Lawson on keys but their brand of jazz and rock didn’t prove popular
