Natural Gas was a hard rock band from London, England, formed in 1975. The band consisted of Joey Molland (guitar, vocals), Jerry Shirley (drums), Mark Clarke (bass), and Peter Wood (keyboards). All four members were experienced musicians who had previously played in successful bands, including Badfinger, Humble Pie, Uriah Heep, and Colosseum. It looked like a recipe for success, a kind of supergroup, in fact.
The band's excellent self-titled debut album was released in 1976. It was produced by Felix Pappalardi, who had previously worked with Mountain and Vanilla Fudge and produced Cream. The album was well-received by critics, who praised the band's musicianship and songwriting. However, it was not a commercial success, failed to chart anywhere and with punk and new wave emerging, they decided they were swimming against the tide, so disbanded in 1977.
