I’ve long adored his fiery, highly technical soloing. First time I heard him was on the brilliant fusion albums, Santana III and Caravanserai. Then on Journey records obviously, which were often surprisingly unsuccessful in the UK. I also bought the two solo works with Jan Hammer and an excellent first solo album in 1989. Bad English made two memorable albums, the second of which was under-valued. One of America’s great guitarists with a commercial knack, despite being a great shredder.
