Black Sabbath - Evil Woman b/w Wicked World. Written and originally recorded by Minneapolis-based band Crow it appeared on their 1969 album Crow Music. Who wasn't a big fan of Crow? No, me neither.
This is in the very early days for the band. Their first show as Black Sabbath took place on 30 August 1969, in the glamorous Westmorland outpost of Workington. History does not record what the good rockin' folk of Workington thought of them. Would love to hear from anyone who saw them.
They were signed to Philips Records in November 1969and released Evil Woman through Philips subsidiary, Fontana Records in January 1970. Later releases were handled by Philips' newly formed progressive rock label, Vertigo Records.
Obviously, because only people in Workington and a few other select places of note had heard of the band it sold almost no copies on Fontana, when re-released on Vertigo later 1970, it still sold the sum total of almost nowt.
As a result a mint copy on Fontana is worth £100.
