Selling and giving away

Selling and giving away
John Nicholson|

We’ve been selling things on local Facebook pages as well as giving stuff away. Some things sell immediately - art materials/equipment, kallax shelves, tables and interior decor generally like rugs. They all sold within an hour. But other things have had zero interest. Dawn is selling one of her full size keyboards and no one seems interested and some other equipment.

When we put 7 kallax shelf units up for sale we were flooded with people who wanted them. Could have sold them 4 times over. It made me realise that when you have stuff people want, selling is no problem at all but if you don’t it remains really hard to attract interest. Like t-shirts in that respect actually

We’ve actually got a 5 x 5 kallax unit which is huge but can't be bothered to  go to the trouble of taking it apart. I think we’ll give that away to anyone that will take it apart.

Things are at last looking clearer and I booked a removal company. They seemed to think they’d get it all in a 3.5 ton Luton van. Getting rid of things is actually quite addictive because it feels like wiping condensation off a window. Everything seems much more clear and manageable. We’re even getting rid of clothes as I fancy starting again with clothes, not that I’m in any way fashionable or even want to be but a refresh is called for I think, at our age its easy to get stuck in a rut and I don’t want to be an old bastard who’s stuck in his ways.

That’s easier to happen than I sometimes realise and that’s another advantage to moving, it forces you to make changes and think differently about what you want to do and how to go about it. It also puts new experiences into your life at a time when things can get predictable

So as disturbing as this whole thing is, I’m trying to look upon the positives of the whole thing.
